INDIAN ASTROLOGY

GREATNESS OF INDIAN ASTROLOGY |

Vedas are the oldest literature and compendium of multitude of Knowledge. The history of Astrology traces back to Vedic times, lakhs of years ago from now. Astrology can be divided broadly as Siddhanta Bhaga (Calculation part) and Phalita Bhaga (Predictive part). In Rigveda, the year is divided into 12 months, the special 13th month called extra month correlates the Solar and Lunar months. In Taittireeya Brahmana, the 6 seasons are described. The details of planets as gods, solar and lunar eclipses are available in Rigveda.

The oldest available book on Astrology is ‘Rigjyothisha’, written by Lagadha. In this book, there are 5 types of years described, along with the ruling deities. The 2 ayanas (parts) of the year are also mentioned, along with their starting stars. Precision of equinoxes are explained. And the 27 stars are also given in this book.

There are 18 pioneers in Astrology, who contributed for its development. They are: 1. Surya, 2. Pitamaha, 3. Vyasa, 4. Vasishta, 5. Atri, 6. Parasara, 7. Kasyapa, 8. Narada, 9. Garga, 10. Mareechi, 11. Manu, 12. Angeerasa, 13. Lomasa, 14. Poulisa, 15. Chyavana, 16. Yavana, 17. Bhrigu, and 18. Saunaka.

Varahamihira (123 AD) wrote ‘Brihat Samhita’, a great work on Astronomy and Astrology. There are 105 chapters and 4000 verses in this book. He has shown how Astrology can be applied for the welfare of public.

Aryabhatta-I (476 AD) wrote ‘Aryabhateeya’, which comprise a great deal of Astronomy, Mathematics and Astrology. Even Astronomy of this book is spread to Arab countries. Aryabhatta-II (950 AD) wrote ‘Mahasiddhanta’, where he explained more clearly about calculation part of Astrology.

Bhaskara-I (629 AD) wrote ‘Mahabhaskareeya’, a book on astro-mathematics. Bhaskara-II (1114 AD) gave ‘Siddhanta Siromani’ where a lot of Mathematics can be found. Details of square, square root, cube, cube root, factorial values, factors of a number are explained. Details of planets, calculation of radius of earth , eclipses, and atmospheric layers ( 7 zones) above earth are discussed clearly.

A lot of other authors like Kalyana Varma, Kalidasa, Venkatesa, Neelakantha, Mantreswara, etc. have published books on Astrology.

Zodiac is the outer wheel from where the radiation from different celestial bodies is received, filtered and sent to earth. Indian Astrology links the planets and stars with gods. Gods are representatives of certain types of energies. The entire Zodiac chart is divided into 12 signs, starting from Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, and Pisces. There are 4 things to be done in a human life: Dharma (righteous path), Artha (wealth), Kaama (Desire), Moksha (Unification of soul with God). These are one by one represented by the 12 houses of the zodiac. The hidden meaning is: A man should follow righteous path to achieve wealth and fulfill his desires. At the same time he must be desirous to reach God, and find ways to finally unify himself with the super soul. The potentiality to achieve this is represented step wise by the zodiac.

Theory says that Zodiac wheel starts with Aries 0 degrees, and is constant. When a top is rotating , it bends slightly and rotates. If a point is imagined on the top , it make circles. These circles will not coincide each other. There will be some deviation between each circle. Similarly, the Zodiac is also deviating slowly from its constant position. It is calculated to be around 51 seconds per year. This deviation is called Precession of equinoxes, or Ayanamsa. Indian Astrologers are not taking this Ayanamsa into account when they calculate Planet positions. So their system is called ‘Nirayana’. But westerners apply this correction in their calculations. So western system is called 'Sayana' system. This is the major difference in Indian and Western Astrological worlds.

Sayana = Nirayana + Ayanamsa.

There are 27 stars and each star has 4 padas (quarters). Thus a total of 27 x 4 = 108 star padas will will arise, which have been distributed in the zodiac. Since 12 signs are there in the Zodiac, every sign gets 9 padas. Each pada is of 3 degrees 20 minutes duration and 9 x 3deg 20min = 30 degrees. So each sign takes 30 degrees duration.

There are planets whose role is to bestow the results of past deeds, done either in this birth or carried from previous births. Planets merely transmit the results which we earlier stored in the form of radiation. There are 9 planets identified: Sun, Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Mercury, Venus , Rahu (Ascending Node) and Kethu (Descending Node). All the planets are not comfortable in all the signs. A planet is comfortable in its exaltation, or friendly or own house. Then it may give good results. A planet is not comfortable in enemy camp, and can give bad results.

Each planet aspects its opposite planet, i.e, the house and planet in 7th from it. Additionally, Jupiter has 5th and 9th aspects. Mars has 4th and 8th aspects. And, Saturn has 3rd and 10th aspects.

By observing the inter-relationships between the signs, planets, stars and their positions, we can understand the inherent capabilities of a human being, his thought process, and his weaknesses, and finally conclude what he has in store for his future. Various Dasa- systems are developed to know what planets are currently influencing a human being and promoting him to do what kind of things.

Indians call planets 'Grahas'. Graha means that which catches. Grahas are those which catch the human beings and shed their influence on them. Grahas affect all inanimate and animate objects in this world. This is the reason Grahas are also personified as gods by Indians. Another greatness of Indian Astrology lies in providing remedial measures for various problems faced by human beings. The remedies are mentioned by sages in various works and also in Vedas. But the suitability of a remedy for a case is to be judged by a competent astrologer.

Indians see Astrology in every thing. It became a part and parcel of their culture. For them Astrology is ‘VedaChakshu’, the guiding eye for molding their future and attaining self- realization.

ASTROLOGY AND SCIENCE |

Astrology has originated from Vedas (the oldest Hindu books of knowledge) and flourished in ancient India, lakhs of years ago. Its roots cannot be traced, but it was discussed and much regarded by all the great Indian seers like Parashara, Jaimini and others. Astrology is referred to as ‘Jyotish’ , which means ‘related to Light’. But then what is light?

The word light is indicative of knowledge, and darkness is a symbol of ignorance. Astrology lights the path of human beings and provides better guidance in molding their future.

We know that Sun is the principal source of light and heat. The rays of Sun fall on plants and produce food in them by ‘photosynthesis’, which is highly desirable for any plant to grow. Sun is a factor for the entire vegetation to grow on this earth and the animals and human beings are depending on it. Then , is there any surprise if Sun is called ‘soul’ of the universe ? Sun is also referred to as ‘Chakshu’ of the Omnipotent. Chakshu means eyes. With eyes we can be in light. Without eyes we will be in darkness. Hence, Greeks and Egyptians called Sun as god of Astrology.

Light also refers to electro-magnetic waves or energies which are spread all over the world. There are cosmic rays which always penetrate into our earth’s atmosphere and cause disturbances in pressure and temperature on earth. Aeronomy says that tidal ways, floods and cyclones on earth are nothing but effects of reactions between various nuclear particles on the surface of Sun. So Light is most significant in this world.

There is another type of light, the light coming from various planets. This light is called radiation. This radiation always carries different types of energies. This light which comes from various planets and constellations continuously fall on all living beings on earth, since their birth till their death. We know that human brain and nervous system is a thousand times more sensitive than a photographic film. If we expose the photographic film to Sun, it gets spoiled immediately. Then why can’t we accept that the human brain and the nervous are also affected by Sun rays? We are all bathing continuously in an array of different radiations coming from different celestial bodies, and why can’t we say that those radiations will definitely affect our lives?

According to Dr. Percy Seymour [chartered member of the Institute of Physics and Fellow member of the Royal Astronomical Society, Director of the William Day Planetarium and principal lecturer in astronomy at the University of Plymouth], the solar magnetic wind of Sun is influenced by other planets which in turn leads to fluctuations in the earth’s magnetic field. Jane Blizard’s work for NASA showed evidence for heliocentric planetary conjunctions, oppositions, and certain 90° alignments giving rise to violent solar disturbances. Due to this, the fluctuations in the earth’s magnetic field will change from 0.0ci to 2.0ci (ci - International magnetic character figure), as noted by geophysicists. This means earth’s magnetism will change depending on disturbances caused by solar magnetic wind. This change in earth’s magnetism will bring changes in human beings - as observed by Professor Yves Rocard [Laboratory Director of Physics at the Ecole normale superieure in Paris]. Rocard devoted 30 years of his life to the study of the sensitivity of humans to magnetism. He detected reception sites in human body at the arches of the eyebrows, at the back of the skull, at the hollows of the knees, near shoulder blades and under heels. These parts are highly sensitive to magnetism. Scientists also found magnetite in human brain. Thus we can prove that the entire human body responds to planetary influences.

Radiations, light, magnetic fields, gravity etc., from different planets and constellations act upon human beings’ body and mind and there by modify the way they take decisions and thus influence their future – certainly a study is needed to establish this fact, and Astrology does this.

Mr. Arnold Meyer of the British Association for the Advancement of Science, observes that “when the Sun and the Moon are in conjunction they are both concentrating their forces on the same part of the globe at the same time; this accounts for the abnormal conditions... This conjunction does definitely affect a child born during conditions of this nature...”

We know the oceanic waves rise to their zenith on full moon days, and they will become calm on new moon days. This is due to electro-magnetic attraction of Moon on water. When the human being’s body has 65% water content, why there will not be any affect of Moon on him?

A study conducted from 1957 to 1968 in Britain revealed that most of the murders are recorded on full moon days only, thus Moon is influencing some people to lose their mental balance.

Kraft published his ‘Astro-physiologie’ in 1928. There he offers a list of 72 persons who were born at about the same time. All these died at the same age and in a similar way. This cannot be dismissed as mere coincidence.

Donald A. Bradley published an important work called ‘Profession and Birthdate’. It is a statistical analysis of the planetary positions found at the time of birth of 2492 eminent clergymen. He has proved beyond doubt that the planetary positions greatly influence the profession of people.

Varahamihira, Aryabhatta, Bhaskara, Kalyana Varma etc… practiced Astrology along with Astronomy. Varahamihira calculated the distances of planets and gave accurate description of various constellations in the sky in his great work ‘BrihatSamhita’. Aristotle wrote a paper on Palmistry in 350 B.C., in which he clearly describes a lot of subject related to lines of palm.

Even the scientists like Copernicus, Tychobrahe, Kepler, Galileo and Newton have done a lot of work in Astrology.

Just because the modern pseudo scientist did not put a stamp of approval to it, we can not say Astrology is not a science. The science is ever changing , finding new theories and opposing its own doctrines. The scientists once declared that the Sun is revolving around the Earth. After Galileo constructed the telescope, the same scientists said that the Earth is revolving round the Sun. Whether the scientists found it or not, the truth is always same. Probably, the same scientist who is criticizing Astrology today, will hug it tomorrow in reverence.

| WHO WILL BECOME RICH? |

There is no doubt a person will become rich if he has:

1) Will to set goals
2) Intelligent planning to reach the goal
3) Hard working nature to execute the plan

But these are not enough to become rich. There is one more element, that is luck. We can find thousands of people with the above mentioned qualities, yet lagging behind in life. The reason is lack of luck. What is luck? It is the effect of good deeds done previously either in this life or in previous birth.

How can we astrologically judge a person has sufficient luck to become rich? First of all, the person should have potentiality to set goals for himself. This can be judged from Ascendant and Ascendant lord. Next, the person should be intelligent enough to carry out the planning. This can be found from 5th house, and its lord. The place of wealth is 2nd house and its lord is giver of wealth. Finally, whether we gain profits and amass wealth is indicated by 11th house and its lord. For all these things to happen, we need luck. This is adjudged from 9th house and its lord.

So then what are the important astrological combinations which make a man rich?

  1. Relation between Ascendant and 11th lords, either by combination or by aspects. This is called ‘Lakshmi Yoga’ by Indian astrologers, which is a symbol of a rich man.
  2. Relation between 5th and 9th lords. If they are strong and in benefic places the person will be more wealthy.
  3. Relation between 2nd lord and 11th lord by way of aspects or combination. If they are placed in quadrants or trines or in exaltation, the person will be equal to ‘Kubera’, the god of wealth.
  4. Relation between 5th , 9th and 11th lords or bhavas.
For example, the above all combinations can be seen in the world’s richest person: Bill Gates horoscope.

  1. Ascendant, 2nd and 11th houses are aspected respectively by their owners or occupied by their owners.
  2. Ascendant lord having relation with 2nd and 9th lords.
For example the above two combinations can be seen in RockFeller’s horoscope.

  1. Ascendant in 2nd house, 2nd lord in 11th house, and 11th lord in 2nd house - is called Dhana Yoga, means a good combination for wealth.
  2. Ascendant lord and 2nd lord exchange their places.
  3. 9th and 10th lords combine either in 9th house or 10th house.
  4. 9th lord and 11th lords exchange their houses.
  5. Benefics in quadrants and trines, where as malefics in 3-6-11 houses is said to make a person a king.
  6. Ascendant or Ascendant lord is aspected by several benefics.
These are only some of the important combinations mentioned in standard texts. There are other combinations. But any how the places 1-5-9-11 and their lords greatly influence a person to acquire wealth. For example, in the horoscope of Indian Steel king and one of the richest people in the world, JRD Tata, we can find the following combinations:

  • 5th and 9th houses are aspected by Jupiter, the most benefic planet.
  • 5th , 9th and 11th lords in quadrants.
  • 2nd and 11th lords have mutual aspects.
  • 2nd and 5th lords combine

I KNOW WHAT IS IN YOUR MIND! |

‘Chandrama Manaso jaatah’ (Moon was born from the mind of God) – Yajur Veda.

It may sound unbelievable to you, but it is true that an Astrologer can tell you what is there in your mind before you open up your mouth! When you meet an Astrologer to know something, you will put in words what you got in your ‘mind’. In Astrology, planet ‘Moon’ is considered karaka (lord) of ‘mind’. Moon is the fastest of all planets just like human mind. Moon is very nearer to earth and hence her influence in terms of gravity and magnetism is more on human beings. This is the reason Vedic Astrology gives more importance to Moon than any other planet. By studying the transit Moon’s position and aspects of other planets on it at the time of appointment with the Astrologer, an Astrologer can easily tell what you intend to ask him. Remember, the Astrologer does not require any details from you. He can simply read your mind just by looking at the transit chart.

By applying the following points, I tell my client exactly what he got in his mind at the moment of his meeting with me.

  • When the Moon is posited in the Ascendant or aspected by the Ascendant lord, her influence will be extreme on the person’s mind. When Moon is with malefics or aspected by malefics, we can say that the person has worry in his mind due to some loss. If benefics aspect Moon, the person is ambitious to reach higher position.

  • If there is influence of 2nd lord on Moon, the person has concern about his earnings and family related issues.

  • If the influence of 3rd lord is on Moon, the person is thinking about his co-borns or he may be daring to take risk in an issue.

  • When there is relation between 4th lord and Moon, the person’s thoughts are about his mother, vehicle, education, house and landed property.

  • When there is relation between 5th lord and Moon, the person wants to know about his love affair or children.

  • When Moon is related to 6th lord, the person is worried about his health. There may be an opposition or getting into court litigation.

  • 7th lord influence on Moon shows issues related to married life and spouse.

  • 8th lord influence on Moon indicates obstacles in profession, fear of deception and ill health.

  • When Moon is related to 9th lord, things like father, foreign country or higher education are in the mind of the person.

  • 10th lord influence on Moon shows that the person is thinking about his profession or job.

  • When there is relation between 11th lord and Moon, the person wants to know about profits in business or about success in the projects on hand.

  • When 12th lord is related to Moon, the person is concerned about his health and expenditure.
Case I: A male came to me on 6-2-2005 at 12.30. In this transit chart, Moon is posited in 8th from the Ascendant. This represents some worry or tension in the mind of the client. Moon is aspected by 10th lord Saturn which represents that he wants to know about his job. Aspect of Rahu on Moon indicates some conspiracy against him in his work place. I told him that there was a problem in his job due to his collegues and he came to me to know about that. The presence of 12th lord Mars with Moon and aspect of 9th lord Saturn on Moon represent that he will change the present job soon and join a new one. This happened later.

Case II: A male came to me on 17-9-2003 at 17.45. In this chart, Moon is posited in 4th from the Ascendant. So, we can assume that the client wants to put a question about his vehicles, house or landed property. Moon in 4th aspected by Mars confirms that it is about something moving, i.e., a vehicle. Moon is hemmed between two malefics Rahu and Saturn indicating that his vehicle would have faced with an accident recently. This is confirmed by 4th lord Venus being located in 8th with his enemy Sun. He is in travel business and he agreed that his car met with an accident nearly 15 days before.

Case III: A female came to me on 3-4-2004 at 15.35. Here, Moon is in the Ascendant. So, the question is related to self. 7th lord Saturn is aspecting Moon which is posited in the place of Saturn’s enemy. It means that the lady’s husband is treating her as his enemy. What might be the reason? Moon is aspected by two more planets Rahu and Mars. Since they are malefics, they also play role in her agony. See who is there with these two planets. Mercury is with Rahu and Venus is with Mars. Mercury being the 8th lord from her 7th (place of husband) represents a second connection for her husband. Venus with Mars represents more sexual desire. So, before she asked me anything, I told her that her husband had sexual contact with a woman and that led to differences between her and her husband; and the purpose of her visit is to know about the result of this relation. She confirmed my reading.

  • s| WHY MARRIAGES BREAK? |

Really, no body knows why marriages break! You may say a marriage breaks when there is no love between the couple. If that is the case, love marriages should not break. But we see several love marriages also breaking soon after the marriage. So, the reason why a marriage breaks is beyond human comprehension. Basically in all broken marriages, we can observe development of hostile atmosphere between the couple which leads to misunderstandings and finally separation. Astrology can tell us why such a painful situation occurs in the life of a couple.

Ancient texts on Indian Astrology mention some important combinations which lead to disappointment in the married life. In Astrology, 7th house and its lord represents spouse and partners. Sage Parasara in his ‘Brihat Parasara Hora Sastra’ describes the following points about 7th house:

Separation is indicated when 7th house lord is in the house of its enemy or if 7th lord is debilitated or 7th lord is receiving aspects from malefics or is in ‘astangatva’. Astangatva represents close conjunction with Sun.

Separation is indicated if 7th lord is posited in 6th, 8th or 12th houses and is weak. Here weakness represents conjunction with bad planets.

Separation is indicated if 7th house is occupied by malefic planets or aspected by malefic planets.

Varahamihira in his ‘Bruhajjataka’ adds: If there is a mixer of good and bad planets in the 7th house, the native will have more than one marriage. This view is also supported by Kalayna Varma in his ‘Saaravali’.

Mantreswara in his ‘Phaladeepika’ says: If Venus or 7th lord is hemmed between malefics, or conjunct with malefics or aspected by malefics, it is a sign of losing the partner.

Kalyana Varma in his ‘Saaraavali’ says: Mars in 7th house leads to loss of partner and if that Mars is aspected by Saturn, then death of partner can be predicted.

Let us remember, in Hindu Vedic Astrology, the planets Saturn, Mars, Sun, Rahu and Kethu are considered natural malefics where as the planets Jupiter and Venus are natural benefics. When Saturn or Rahu involve with 7th house affairs, we can say the spouse has past life debts to be repaid in terms of marriage relationship. Saturn and Rahu represent separation, sometimes owing to the death of the spouse. If Mars is involved, then it denotes one of the partners becoming aggressive and wild thus spoiling the relation.

Case I: A male born on Jun 20, 1975 at 13.23, at Hong Kong.

The Ascendant is Virgo. The 7th house becomes Pisces whose lord Jupiter posited in the own house. This represents that this native’s wife is strong and endowed with leadership qualities. Mars is also joined with Jupiter thus making her stubborn and quarrelsome. Observe that the 7th lord is in conjunction with the malefic planet Mars. Also this 7th lord is receiving 10th aspect from Saturn, another first class malefic. More over 7th lord is also in aspect from Rahu. Saturn and Rahu represent separation. So, the marriage was broken. Also Saturn is becoming 5th lord representing children in this horoscope. Saturn is in turn receiving 4th aspect from Mars. More over, Saturn is conjunct with Sun which is a bad combination. This combination represents loss of children. These factors made the native to be separated from his wife and son.

Case II: A B Vajpayee born on Dec 25, 1924 at 5.02, at Gwalior, India.

This is the horoscope of Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee, our former Prime Minister and BJP central leader. The Ascendant and Moon sign is Scorpio. Hence the 7th house is Taurus whose lord is Venus posited in the Ascendant. This type of Venus promotes marriage. The note worthy point in this horoscope is 7th house hemmed between the two malefics Mars and Rahu. These planets represent that even if Vajpayee marries, his wife will not survive. Moreover, Kethu is aspecting 7th house which represents lack of interest in the married life which is carried from his past life and Rahu is aspecting the 7th lord Venus which represents separation. Also Saturn is posited in the natural 7th house. Saturn represents delay in getting married and separation if married. Such a native with these planetary combinations is better not to marry. Of course, as we know Vajpayee spent his entire life without marriage.

  • | KUJA DOSHA - FACT OR MYTH ? |

When Kuja (Mars) is posited in a horoscope in the houses 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th or 12th from the Ascendant, it is called ‘Kuja dosha or Mangalik (ill effect of Mars). In the horoscope, the 2nd house represents family and happiness of the native. 4th house represents childhood and the psychology developed out of the influences at childhood. 7th house represents marriage and partner. 8th house represents the maangalya (welfare) of the spouse. 12th house represents bed comforts. So, when natural malefic Mars is posited in these houses, we can expect some disharmony in the affairs of these houses which leads to dissatisfaction in the married life and finally separation of the couple.

Mars represents irritation, anger and impulsive nature. Mars is so dynamic that he makes the person get into actions without thinking adequately. When anger predominates, we cannot think properly. Hence the decisions and actions taken will be generally wrong when Mars is active.

Kuja dosha leads to separation of the couple. Here separation may be due to one of the couple going abroad and staying there for a longer period. Separation can also represent the ill health of one of the couple because of which they cannot enjoy the conjugal bliss. Sometimes Kuja dosha indicates death of the partner also.

Kuja dosha should be reckoned from the Ascendant in the Rasi chart. Also, this dosha should be confirmed from the Navamsa chart since the ‘Navamsa’ represents the general wellbeing of the spouse. Some texts say that we should count Kuja dosha from the Moon and Venus also. If this is the case, there will not be any person without Kuja dosha.

In Vedic Astrology, several texts mentioned various exceptions for Kuja dosha. For example, 1) Kuja dosha does not exist when Mars is conjunct Jupiter or Moon. 2) No dosha for the Ascendants owned by Sun, Moon, Mars and Jupiter. 3) No dosha if Mars is in Leo or Aquarius. 4) No dosha if Mars is in the 2nd house which is Gemini or Virgo. 5) No dosha if Mars is in 4th house, if it is owned by Mars (i.e, Aries or Scorpio) 6) No dosha in the 7th if it is Cancer or Capricorn. 7) No dosha in the 8th, if it is owned by Jupiter (i.e, Sagittarius or Pisces). 8) No dosha if Mars is in 12th house, if it is Taurus or Libra. In this way the list will grow. But, in our experience, these exceptions are found to be invalid. If we take these exceptions into account, then Kuja dosha will not exist in any horoscope. These many exceptions are mentioned, probably to facilitate marriages in the society.

Case I: A male born on April 3rd, 1984 at 8.32 AM, Amalapuram, India.

In this horoscope, the Ascendant falls in Taurus whose lord is Venus. The 2nd and 5th house lord Mercury representing family and love is in 12th. Of course, 12th house represents secrets and bed comforts. This person loved a girl and married to her secretly in a temple. They started living together without their parents knowing about it. The marriage has taken place during December 2006 in Venus-Kethu sub period. The 7th house is occupied by Mars and Kethu. Since Kethu is with Mars, it also works like Mars and becomes responsible for marriage and later breaking the marriage.

During March 2009, there was an argument between the couple over some trivial thing and his wife left the house without informing him. At that time, Sun-Jupiter sub period is running where both the Sun and Jupiter are enemies for his Ascendant. In this horoscope, we can observe the Kuja dosha reinforced by Rahu’s aspect to Mars from the Ascendant. Rahu and Saturn are separative planets which if aspect the 7th house or 7th lord will bring separation definitely.

Case II: A female born on April 14th, 1970 at 8.35 PM, Mumbai, India.

Here, the Ascendant is Libra whose lord is in 7th house. Mars is posited in 8th house representing Kuja dosha. In the 7th house, multiple planets are there indicating more than one marriage. Since 7th lord Mars (husband) is in 8th house representing enemy place, her husband gave her very bad treatment. Saturn being a separative planet is also in the 7th house confirming the separation. She has gone to the court of law and got divorce from him.

There is exchange of houses between 7th lord Mars and 8th lord Venus which represent second marriage. 5th lord Saturn representing love and 8th lord Venus representing second husband are joined together in 7th house which is marriage place. Now she is in love with an aged person of around 55 years of age, whom she is going to marry. Please note that Saturn represents aged people.

    Remedies for Kuja dosha:

    • The person who has got Kuja dosha in his/her chart should marry a person with same strength of Kuja dosha. Then the bad effect of Mars will be neutralized. But it is not cancelled.

    • Kuja dosha can be suppressed by reciting Lord Subrahmanya Astottaram (108 names). Lord Subrahmanya is also called Skandha, Karitkeya or Kumaraswamy.

    • It is said: ‘Bhaaryam Rakshatu bhairavi’ – Let my spouse be protected by Bhairavi. Goddess Durga is called Bhairavi and hence reciting Durga stotram is also a remedy to escape from Kuja dosha.

    • When Kuja dosha is very strong, it separates the couple by killing the spouse. In this case, first the bride should marry a pipal tree (pippala) and then the actual marriage should take place. This is called ‘Pippala vratha’.

    • In Hindu puranaas, Savithri is a female who fought with Yama, the lord of Death and got her husband alive. Hence, in case of Kuja dosha, it is recommended that the bride should perform ‘Savithri vratha’ to make her husband long-lived.

    • Worshipping the Gods Bhairava or Narasimha is the best remedy for Mars.

    • Wearing Red Coral (moonga) gem of 5 carats in a silver ring for the right hand’s ring finger will help to alleviate Kuja dosha.
    •
  • MATCH MAKING - THE RIGHT WAY |

The saying: ‘Marriages are made in heaven’ is not correct. This is so interpreted by the people that the marriages of human beings are conducted in heaven by gods before the couple is sent to the earth. What on the earth we are doing is to reunite the same couple in the name of marriage! It gives an impression that you should welcome who ever comes into your life and there is no choice left to you to select your life partner.

The correct adage is: ‘Marriages are made in heavens’. Here ‘heavens’ means ‘zodiac’. Hence the correct meaning of this saying is that the marriages are to be fixed according to the zodiacs (horoscopes) of the couple. Then only the couple will have a congenial and long lasting married life. This is what is followed in India since Vedic times. Vedic Astrology helps to match the horoscopes of the couple to determine whether they are compatible to marry or not. This is called ‘Match making’ or ‘Guna melan’ or ‘Melaapakam’.

In Vedic Astrology, there are 3 factors considered in match making: 1. Ashta kootas (8 groups), 2. Kuja dosha (Ill effect of Mars), and 3. Relationship of planets. Here Asthta kutas is of least importance. But people in India are giving undue importance to Ashta kootas while neglecting the other two.

    Ashta kootas (8 groups):

While comparing the horoscopes of the couple, the following 8 factors are considered in North India:

    1. Varna koota : It represents the nature of the individual, whether the person is soft or aggressive. Varna is given 1 point, if matches.

    2. Vashya koota: It represents mutual attraction between the couple. If Vashya is there between the horoscopes, it is given 2 points.

    3. Taara koota or Dina koota: It represents health and wellbeing of the couple. Maximum points given to this factor is 3.

    4. Yoni koota: It represents sexual compatibility. Maximum points are 4.

    5. Graha Maitri: It represents intellectual and spiritual levels of the couple. Upto 5 points are allotted for this.

    6. Gana koota: It represents temperaments of the couple. Points allotted are 6.

    7. Bhakoot or Rashi koota: It represents emotional compatibility of the couple. It should be judged for maximum points of 7.

    8. Naadi koota: It represents the levels of Vaata (cold), Pitta (heat) and Kapha (phlegm) in the human body. These represent the health externally and metabolism internally. Same Naadi for the couple is not allowed. The maximum points allotted are 8 for this factor.

The preceding 8 factors thus total to 36 maximum points. Out of these, if the couple gets 18 points then marriage between the couple is recommended.

In addition to the above 8 factors, in South India the following 4 factors are also considered:

    1. Mahendra koota: It represents longevity of the relationship.

    2. Sthree Deergha koota: It represents children and grand children.

    3. Rajju: It represents duration of the married life. The couple should not have same rajju.

    4. Vedha: It represents power to drive away all misfortunes.

An understanding of all these 12 factors tell us that they are calculated based on Moon, Moon sign (Rasi) and the Moon star (Nakshatra) of the couple.

Kuja dosha (Ill effect of Mars):

If Mars is posited in 2nd, 4th, 7th, 8th and 12th from the Ascendant or Moon sign, then it is considered as Kuja dosha. Kuja dosha in a horoscope represents one of the couple will face ill health, accidents or may die early, especially when Mars is in 7th or 8th houses. When matching the horoscopes, if Kuja dosha is found in both the horoscopes of the couple, then its bad effects will be neutralized, but not cancelled. So it is advised that a person with Kuja dosha should marry another person with the same intensity of Kuja dosha.

    Relationship of planets:

The most important factor while deciding the match is to look for friendship and harmony between the planets of the horoscopes of the couple (boy and girl). The following points are noteworthy:

    1. The Ascendants of the boy and girl should be in good positions to each other. It means they should be in the places 1-7, 3-11, and 5-9. They should not be in bad positions like 2-12, 4-10 or 6-8. For example, the boy’s Ascendant is Taurus. Then, a girl whose Ascendant is Taurus (1), Cancer (3), Virgo (5), Scorpio (7), Capricorn (9) or Pisces (11) is suitable for him.

    2. The Ascendant lords should be in friendly aspect like 3-11 or 5-9. For example, the boy’s Ascendant is Taurus. Its lord is Venus. The girl’s Ascendant is Capricorn whose lord is Saturn. If Venus and Saturn are posited in 3rd and 11th positions or in 5th and 9th locations from each other, then they are compatible.

    3. The Moon signs (Rasis) of the boy and girl should be in good positions like 3-11 and 5-9. They should not be in 1-7, 2-12, 6-8, 4 -10 positions.

    4. The lords of the Moon signs (Rasis) should be in friendly positions like 3-11 or 5-9.

    5. General kaarakas (significators) for marriage are Moon and Venus in the boy’s horoscope and Sun and Mars in the girl’s horoscope. So there should be good aspect between Moon in the boy’s horoscope and the Sun in the girl’s horoscope. It means they can be in 3-11 or 5-9 positions. This represents psychological compatibility. Similarly there should be good aspect between Venus in boy’s horoscope and Mars in girl’s horoscope. It means they can be in 1-7, 3-11, or 5-9 positions. This leads to sexual compatibility.

    6. The Moon position in the boy’s horoscope should be in good aspect like 3-11 or 5-9 with the Moon position in the girl’s horoscope. This represents like-mindedness and emotional compatibility. For example, if the boy’s Moon sign is Gemini and the girl’s is Leo then they are suitable.

    7. When considering from boy’s Ascendant, there should not be any bad planet (Saturn, Mars or Uranus) in the girl’s horoscope which forms bad aspect with the boy’s Ascendant. For example, the boy’s Ascendant is Aries. In the girl’s horoscope, Uranus is in Libra. Then the girl’s Uranus is forming opposition to boy’s Ascendant. This represents separation of the couple if married.

    8. Bad planets like Saturn, Mars, or Uranus in the 7th or 8th houses in an individual horoscope generally indicate unhappiness in married life and separation of the couple or early death of the partner.

    Points or Planets?

In my experience, I have seen several people giving importance only to points obtained from Ashta kootas (8 groups) thus neglecting the other factors in deciding the match. They take a Panchanga (Almanac) where a table is found with birth stars and points related to Ashta kootas. They look at the birth stars of the girl and the boy in the table and if the points given are below 18, immediately refusing the match at hand. In this way, I have seen many families losing excellent matches just because of their ignorance. Half knowledge is more dangerous than no knowledge!

There are many cases where the couples got separated immediately after the marriage, even though the points are more than 18. I have also seen horoscopes where the points are very less but still the couples have very good married life with all the peace and prosperity in life. The reason is those horoscopes have affinity of planets. Points are not at all important because they are based only on Moon, a single planet. When we take all the planets, then only we will get a true picture. Relationship of planets should be given importance over anything else. So, it is strongly advised that the couples should contact a competent Astrologer to know the compatibility but not their old grand parents or pujaris (priests) who see only the birth stars and pronounce a decision.

    Case Study:

    Husband’s details: 31-12-1978, 11.45 AM at 80E27, 16N18.
    Wife’s details: 22-10-1987, 4.15 AM at 80E35, 16N15.

Husband’s birth star is Uttarashadha – 3rd quarter and Wife’s birth star is Chitta – 1st quarter. Based on the stars, the points obtained in Ashta kootas are 16.5 out of 36. There are 0 points obtained in Vashya, Gana and Bhakoot. Since minimum points of 18 are not achieved, any body would advise them not to marry. The girl has Mars in the Ascendant which is not counted as Kuja dosha. But the boy has Kuja dosha when counted from Moon sign.

They were married in May 2004 and ever since living happily with their two children who are doing well. Why? Planets are important than points. Let us see the relationship of planets in their horoscopes:

    1. The boy’s Ascendant is in 1-7 location to the girl’s Ascendant indicating mutual attraction.

    2. Venus in the boy’s horoscope is forming 3-11 aspect with the Mars in girl’s horoscope. This represents healthy sexual life.

    3. The Moon in the boy’s horoscope is forming 5-9 aspect with the Moon in girl’s horoscope, thus representing like-mindedness.

    4. The Sun in the boy’s horoscope is forming 3-11 aspect with the Sun in girl’s horoscope. This represents harmony at the soul level.

    5. Rasi lord in the boy’s horoscope is Saturn who is in good aspect 3-11 with the Rasi lord Mercury in girl's horoscope.

From the above, we can conclude that even though the points are less, the couple is leading a happy life because of the friendly relationship of planets in their horoscopes.
  • | REMEDIES – WILL THEY WORK? |

People suffer from many things: some people suffer from illhealth, some people suffer from poverty, some people suffer from personal problems and some people suffer from professional problems. We cannot find any person on this earth without suffering in one form or the other. If we go into retrospection and spend some time, we can understand that we never committed any mistakes but still we are put to suffering. Why? To answer this question, we should go back to our previous lives. We did a lot of actions (karmas) in our previous births whose fruits are now enjoyed by us. The rule is simple: if we did wrong deeds, then we would get bitter fruits. Similarly, if we did right things, then we are ought to get sweet fruits. This is the karma theory in its simplest form.

For example, a person who sells fake medicines and earns a lot of money in his previous birth will definitely suffer from chronic diseases in this life and spends a lot of money on the diseases. A person who gets into quarrels with others and hurts others in the previous life will face vehicular accidents and liable to lose limbs in this birth. A person who earns a lot of money but does not donate it to others will take birth in poverty.

Then, how can we escape from our past karmas? One solution is: let us experience the fruits of our past karmas and let us not do any further karma. When we do not generate any new actions, and go on experiencing the old karmas, then one day our karmas completely exhaust. Then the cover of karma which so far wrapped our soul will be removed and our soul shines crystal clear. This is the stage when we realize our real inner soul which is nothing but the supreme soul. This method is very difficult for us because we seldom live without doing karmas. But this is generally adopted by the saints who renounce the world.

The second solution is neutralizing the effects of karma by doing karma again. For example, a person who is suffering from a disease can get rid off the disease by realizing that he sold fake medicines in his past life and dedicating himself to serve the patients suffering from diseases. Serving the patients can be in any way. He should sympathize with them whole-heartedly and render some help for them like distributing the medicines with his money. This will enable him to come out of his illness. This is the ‘remedy’ for curing the disease of a person. Please remember that the remedies will work only if we realize that our present problems are due to our past actions.

Where Astrology stands in this? The duty of planets in Astrology is to carry the fruits of our past actions to us. Thus planets do not cause any bad or good events. They simply act as mirrors in reflecting our own deeds. The horoscope of a person tells clearly which planets are reflecting health problem, professional problem or personal problem. So, an Astrologer can find out the planet and prescribe the appropriate remedy to pacify that planet. Here, we are not actually pacifying the planets. We are trying to neutralize the effects of our past bad deeds which we are going to get via that planet.

The following are various types of remedies, useful to a native to escape from his past karma:

    Mantras

Mantras are sounds which create positive energy. They are the most powerful remedy for any problem. Anything can be done using mantras. It is said that Sage Viswaamitra using his mantra power, had created another Universe similar to the one we are living in. Such is the power of mantras. When an Astrologer finds out that a particular planet is the cause for the problems of a person, he can prescribe an appropriate mantra for the deity of that planet. For example, when Saturn is in a bad position causing illhealth to a person, then the Astrologer prescribes Mrityunjaya mantra.

Reciting mantras is very difficult since there are many restrictions to be observed. In that case reciting stotras (Sanskrit verses) will be easier and effective. For example, regular recitation of astottarams (108 names) or sahasrams (1000 names) of a particular god will help to alleviate problems related to a particular planet.

Recitation of ancient scriptures will also help us to come out of many problems. For example, we have seen in our experience that many couples who were denied progeny were blessed with children after recitation of 16th Sarga of Baalakanda in the Sanskrit epic: Raamaayan.

    Yantras

Yantras are sacred symbols which are written on a copper plate. They are either worn on the body or installed in a house. For example, when a resident is facing problems due to bad Vaastu in his house, an Astrologer can ask him to install a Mastya yantra.

    Tantras

Tantras are specialized actions which pacify the planets. Tantras are generally connected to mantras. For example, if a woman has Mars problem due to which there is possibility of death of her husband, then her marriage is conducted first with a peepul tree in a tantric way. Then another marriage celebration is done with the actual bridegroom. In this way, the bridegroom becomes her second husband and he will be long lived.

Here is another example. Get a horse shoe which was used for a few months. Horse shoe is a U-shaped iron plate nailed to underside of horse's hoof. Clean the used horse shoe and affix it in inverted U form to the top of the wooden frame of the main door of your house. This is a simple but effective remedy to eliminate general Vaastu problems in the house.

    Offering donations

When a planet is not good, then that planet’s related articles should be donated to a Brahmin (learned person). For example, when the planet Saturn is not good, then one and a quarter kilo of gingelly seeds, a black piece of jaggery, and a black nail should be packed in a black cloth and donated to a Brahmin on any Saturday.

    Herbal treatment

Certain herbs and plants represent certain planets. When a planet is in good position in the horoscope but exerting bad influence on the person, then corresponding herb should be consumed by the person to make the planet strong. For example, if Moon is not good then the native will suffer from digestive diseases. To cure this, the native should consume the herbs like lettuce, cabbages, turnips, cucumber, water melon, etc.

    Gems

Each gem absorbs only one type of energy related to a particular planet. So, by wearing a gem, we are increasing energy of that planet. For example, in a horoscope if Jupiter is found in a good position, then we should wear a Yellow Sapphire in a gold ring to the right hand’s index finger. In this way, Jupiter’s energy is increased thus it causes maximum benefit to the native.

    Color therapy

Each color represents a particular planet. Since Sun is the ruler of all planets, Sun’s rays contain all colors. Research shows that we can cure more than 100 diseases by using Sun rays. Colored rays are specific to planets. For example, if planet Mars is weak, that person will not have confidence and positive outlook on life. To combat this, we can give him Red color therapy where he is exposed to Red colored rays daily.

    Magneto therapy

Human body contains a lot of magnetic material and responsive to magnets. In case of a disease, we can use magnets to balance the electromagnetic energy of the human body, thus keeping away from the disease.
  • DREAMS ARE YOUR ASTRAL JOURNEYS! |

Every one of us gets dreams. Some people say that their dreams came true and some claim that they have seen horrifying figures disturbing their mind entire night. Dreams are real mystery to every one since no body knows for certainty what they mean.

Greeks believed that gods physically visited the dreamers to deliver divine messages. Later, they thought the soul of the dreamer would leave the physical body and roams around in different places which are seen in dreams. The same view is supported by Indians and Chinese.

Egyptians were among the early civilizations to attempt interpretation of their dreams. The process of ‘dream incubation’ began in Egypt. When a person has troubles in the life and wants guidance from god, he used to sleep in a temple. He would get a dream during that night. When he wakes up, he takes the help of a priest to get his dream interpreted.

Hippocrates, in his book on dreams wrote that the soul receives images during the day and it produces the images during the night, and hence we dream. Aristotle thought that dreams could be indicators of conditions within the body. He did not believe they were divinely inspired. He attributes the scenes in the dreams to the internal sensations in the human body.

Romans had strong views on dreams. They believed dreams were messages from the gods. Emperor Augustus ruled that anyone who had a dream about the country must proclaim it in the market place.

In recent times, Sigmund Freud, in his book ‘The Interpretation of Dreams’ writes that the experiences and suppressed desires of a person during waking hours are stored in his subconscious mind. Since subconscious mind continues to function during sleep also, it presents the same experiences and desires in the form of symbols in the dreams. For example, if a person has high sexual desire, he sees rhythmical activities such as dance, riding, moving up and down the stairs etc., in his dreams which are symbols of sexual intercourse. Freud gave more importance for the sexual content of the dreams. Long slender objects like sticks, knives, flagpoles, water taps etc. represent male genitals and hollow objects like vessels, vases, caves, pits represent female genitals.

Carl Jung connects dreams with different personality types which he calls ‘archetypes’. These archetypes appear as different persons or images in the dreams. For example, a man contains within him some feminine qualities which appear in the dream in the form of females. The innocent and pure heartedness of the man appears as a child in his dream. His teacher or father who helps him will appear as a ‘wise old man’ giving him guidance in the dream. The negative aspects like weaknesses and fears of the person will appear as frightening figures in the dreams. By understanding these archetypes, the dreamer can understand his personality better and can solve any disorders in his personality.

Alfred Adler does not believe dreams to bridge the subconscious and conscious minds. He takes dreams as problem-solving devices. When dreams are brought to the conscious and interpreted properly, they help us to understand our problems in waking life and offer solutions how to resolve those problems.

Calvin Hall says that dreams should be considered to be a cognitive (to know) process. Hall argued that a dream was simply a thought or sequence of thoughts that occurred during sleep, and that dream images are visual representations of personal conceptions.

    Correct reason behind dreams:

There are two reasons behind dreams. One reason is the psychological and physiological changes happening in our body. For example, if we are afraid of some issue, we get a dream where we are chased by some unknown figure. In the same way, if our urine bladder is full during night, we visualize toilets in our dreams.

The other reason for dreams is our astral travel. When we go to sleep, the body starts relaxing and after sometime, the astral body slowly raises from the physical body. The astral body can be imagined to have exact shape like the physical body, but with fewer molecules and less dense. This astral body is inbuilt in the physical body. During night when the physical body sleeps, the astral body comes out and floats like a feather in the air.

The astral body can go to any place in the world at lightening speed. It can go deep into sea and fly high in the sky. It can go to other planets and galaxies in the universe. When astral body travels like this, there will be other astral bodies and creatures coming in touch with it at different planes. Sometimes, astral bodies of great souls living at higher dimensions may communicate with our astral body. After roaming for as much time as it wants, the astral body comes back to its physical body during waking hours. Generally, the astral body forgets what has happened during its trip since memory is attached to the physical brain. But sometimes, the scenes can be remembered by the astral body even after it returns to the physical body. These remembered scenes are thought as ‘dreams’ by people.

  • | MOLES ARE CLUES FOR YOUR DESTINY |

Moles are marks which can be found on different parts of the body. In Indian and Chinese Astrology, moles are interpreted as representing the destiny of the person. The influence of the planets on the person would start at the time of fetus formation in the mother’s womb. Some planets influence the fetus more and some less. These influences result into mole formation when focused at the surface of the body. In the horoscope, the Ascendant and its lord, 6th house lord, Moon, Mars, Saturn, Uranus, Rahu and Kethu will form moles on the human body. For example, if the Ascendant lord Saturn is posited in Aries, will produce a black mole (Saturn for black) on the head part (Aries for head) of the native.

If the sign and planet influencing the fetus are masculine then the mole will be formed at the right side of the body. If the sign and planet are feminine then the mole will be formed at the left side of the body. For example, a combination of Mars (Male planet) and Venus (Female planet) in Scorpio (female sign representing genitals) forms a mole on the genitals. If Mars is strong, then the mole will be at the right side on the genitals. If Venus is strong, then the mole will be formed at left side. The colors of the moles can be decided by the colors of the planets. For example, Saturn and Rahu give black moles and Mars gives red moles.

Moles should be interpreted according to their color, shape and size, and the place where they are located on the body. Moles in red color or honey color or green color will generally bring good fortune. Moles in black color give bad results. Small moles which are not so visible, will not give any results. Only big moles will produce results. Long moles give good results. Moles which are in square shape will give bad results in the starting, but they produce good results by the end. Moles in the form of a triangle will produce mixed results, sometimes good and sometimes bad. Moles in zigzag shapes will produce bad results. • | FORTUNE THROUGH PALM |

"There is nothing in the three worlds for knowledge besides the hand, which is given to man and which can be read like a book." - Hasta Sanjeevani.

It is said that Palmistry has migrated from India to other countries like Greece, Egypt, Persia and Syria in ancient times. Samudra, deity of the Seas has first given this knowledge to the world, hence this is called 'Samudrika'. Sages like Narada, Valmiki, Garga, Bhrigu, Prahlada and Astrologers like Varahamihira have done a lot of work in Palmistry. Palmistry was discussed in the great books like 'Bhavishya Puranam' and 'Hasta Sanjeevani'. But some how Palmistry could not receive proper attention in India in modern times. It is given high regard in Western countries.

"...It has put me under a necessity of saying something about Palmistry, which is a judgment made of the conditions, inclinations, and fortunes of men and women, from their various lines and characters which Nature has imprinted in the hands" says Aristotle in a paper written by him in 350 B.C. Today Palmistry has completely transformed into a science, because of the extensive research done by the intelligentsia. Palmistry is a science of understanding the Past, Present and Future of a person by the pads and lines of a palm.

Palmistry revives its foundation on the experiments conducted by Desbarrolles and d'Arpentigny in 19th century. They made a life time study of Palmistry by collecting the imprints of Hands of thousands of people, and classifying them according to the nature of people and events which occurred in their lives. Then a hypothesis has been developed and verified with the support of further research.

Just like a doctor examines a patient and determines his disease by using clinical equipment, a Palmist can predict in advance the health state of a person by simply observing his hands. Noel Jaquin and Eugene Scheimann have proved this by their research. Mr Edward Kowalewski, a professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine and former president of the American Academy of Physicians, says: "I try to watch the hands of the patients in my waiting room, because they give so many clues, both physical and emotional".

Micheal Faraday proved that electric charge is attracted by objects with sharp ends. This is the reason, when the child enters this world from his mother's womb, the life force from cosmos enters his body through the fingers of his hands and toes of feet. Mostly the life force enters through the index finger and goes up to the brain, where it influences the person's thinking and circulates in the body and finally comes back through the other fingers. The movement of life force is channeled by the lines of the hand. Every finger of the hand has been connected to a different area of the brain, thus activating different processes in the brain.

The pads below the fingers are the places where a number of nerves are bundled up. These pads are like capacitors to store the life force. The life force also carries the energies coming from the planets in the sky. And hence, the pads are named after the planets.

The answer for the question: How the hand reveals Past, Present and Future of a person lies in the statement by Frances Kiezle: "Hands are photographic plates upon which our brain writes our impressions". When an event happens, our brain first reacts for the event, and that reaction leaves a mark in our hands. By reading these marks, we can understand the Past of a person. The sub conscious mind always carries impressions from Past life, and these impressions bear considerable affect on Present deeds. The sub conscious state can also be studied by the hand, and hence the Future can be predicted.

Every hand is unique, and reflects the nature of the person. The pads or mounts of the hand show the strengths and weaknesses in the personality. The marks and lines in the hand describe a vivid picture of events that take place in his life. But these marks and lines may change from time to time depending on the planetary energies which vary from time to time. By a careful examination of all these factors, we can judge what the person is and what he has in store.
    | YOUR HEALTH IN YOUR HANDS |

It is a super specialty hospital and there is heavy rush of people in the waiting hall. A middle-aged man is sitting with a gloomy face in the chair. He has a report in his hands and waiting to be called into the doctor's room. After 1 hour, he is sent into the room. The doctor examined the report and declared that the man has cancer in advanced stage and he may not survive. After 3 months, the man died.

Even though, now-a-days hospitals have latest lab equipment, the doctors are able to diagnose a disease only at its culminating stage. Can't we know the onset of a disease well in advance, so that we can get rid of the disease at its preliminary stage itself? Palmistry helps very much in such cases. Reading the lines of the palm can provide the information about the diseases well in advance, that is even difficult to diagnose using modern lab equipment in a hospital. See what the editorial of Journal of American Medical Association writes: "The human hand is a unique organ from which an extraordinary amount of clinical information may be derived".

Let us now try to understand how to diagnose some diseases by observing the nails of the fingers and the lines in the palm. Let us now try to understand how to diagnose some diseases by observing the nails of the fingers and the lines in the palm. The picture below will be useful to recognize certain Mounts and lines of palm.

    Nails:

    (a) long nails: indicate weakness of lungs and respiratory problems.
    (b) short nails flat and raised up at edges: throat and bronchial troubles.
    (c) thin nails: headaches and body aches.
    (d) triangular nails: nervous disorders and paralysis.
    (e) circular nails with the finger tips look like knobs: weakness of heart.
    (f) spoon shaped nails: malnutrition and glandular diseases.

    Eye troubles:
If the heart line has an island formation or a circle under the ring finger, it represents eye weakness and sometimes blindness.
    Heart aches:
If the heart line has breaks, it represents heart attacks.
    Fatty heart:
If the heart line has ridges below it and appears wide, it is an indication of accumulating fat into the heart's valves which may be closed.
    Teeth problems:
If the heart line has fine vertical lines cutting it under the middle finger, it represents the problems to gums and teeth.
    Headaches:
Minute dots in head line represent tensions and headaches.
    Mental ill health:
Any breaks and chains in head line represent mental ill health.
    Tensions:
If the head line has islands, it tells about mental tensions and memory loss.
    Intestinal Ulceration:
Malformation of ridges and some thin lines parallel to the health line under the head line represents bacterial infection in intestines and if strong leads to intestinal ulcers.
    Female problems:
Crisscross or horizontal lines on the Mount of Moon indicate weak uterus and discharge problems for women.
    Venereal diseases:
A star at the junction of the Head line and Health lines indicate venereal diseases. The same thing is indicated by island on the lower portion of Mount of Moon.
    Asthma:
The space between the head line and heart line is narrow under the middle finger and one or two lines starting from the Mount of Venus move towards the head line - indicate asthma.
    Kidney troubles:
If there is a grille or cross on the lower part of the Mount of Moon, it represents kidney troubles.
    Cancer:
Malformation of ridges below the ring finger under the heart and head lines represent cancer virus has set into the body. In the next stage, the entire hand is filled with cob web formation of thin and crisscross lines.

While observing the lines, observe them in both the palms. If the above indications are found in both the hands, then the above conclusions can be confirmed. If the above indications appear in only one palm, then we can say the person is prone to that disease.

    | THE LINES WHICH MAKE YOU WEALTHY |

The saying ‘Dhanamoolam idam jagath’ means the entire world bases on money. To live happily, we need money. Whether we can get good occupation, earn a lot of money and social status can be seen in the lines of our palm. There will be a lot of difference in the lines of a person who enjoys rich and royal life and that of a person who leads a life filled with poverty.
Are you a spendthrift or miser?

Just press your right hand’s thumb away from other fingers. If your thumb bends down easily and there are a lot of gaps between each finger, then you are a spendthrift. It is highly difficult for you to save money. [Fig 1]
On the other hand, if your thumb is stiff and not bending down, there are no gaps between the fingers then you are calculative in money matters. You will think twice before you touch your purse. [Fig 2]
    Lines which bring you riches

There are some mounts and lines in the palm which make any one fortunate in financial matters. They rise a person to wealth even if he is born in poverty.

The mounts Sun, Venus and Jupiter should be good in your palm. These regions below the fingers should be wide and high. Sun represents success in all matters. Venus gives luxurious life and Jupiter leadership qualities. [Fig 3]

The next important thing is Fate line. It is a line which generally starts at the base of the palm and ascends the Saturn mount. [Fig 3 FF] It should be straight, clear and in thick brown color without any breaks. This will give you continuous inflow of money.

The Sun line should be present. Generally the Sun line starts at the base of the palm and ends on the Sun mount. [Fig 3 SS] If it is not the case, it can start as a branch from Fate line and should reach Sun mount. This line gives success in financial matters.
Lines of Head, Heart and Life should be long and clear and without any blemishes. They represent physical and mental health which is essential to prosper in life.

As an example, we furnish the palm drawing of Queen Victoria who is the first British Queen for India. [Fig 4] See all the mounts (planets) in her palm are very good. There are long and clear Fate line, Jupiter line and Sun line. Is there any surprise that she became the Queen for a big country?
    Lines which make beggars

It is also possible to recognize the lines which throw people into poverty. The following combinations are detected by me in the hands of beggars:

Most of the planetary mounts are low and depressed in the palm. The plain of Mars in the middle of the palm is also very low. If touched, we feel the nerves of the palm. This represents debts, litigations and obstacles in life.

The back of the hand is coarse and the fingers are short and crude representing unrefined thoughts and actions of the person.

The Fate line will be absent. If present, it will be unclear, shallow and cut by multiple horizontal lines. The same can be found for other lines. [Fig 5] It represents financial losses or lack of earnings.
    Combinations for wealth yogas

When the Venus mount is good, Fate line is clear and Head line is long and it has a hook formation rising at the end [Fig 6], then you will become rich by your own efforts and intelligence.
When a line rises from Life line and proceeds towards Saturn mount [Fig 7], it represents sudden gain of wealth or property. There will be sudden promotion in the job.
When there is a line rising from inside the Venus mount and reaching Saturn mount [Fig 8], it represents wealth from spouse. In some cases it represents inheritance from relatives.
When there is a line rising from Moon mount and reaching Saturn mount [Fig 9], the person rises in the life with the help of others. It also represents wealth from ladies, either from mother or wife.
When there is a line rising at the middle of the palm, going to the Saturn mount [Fig 10], the person faces a lot of financial problems till his middle age. There would be financial troubles to his parents during his childhood. But he will achieve social status and become rich by his own efforts from his middle age onwards.
When Fate line is curved and going towards Jupiter mount [Fig 11], there will be growth seen in the areas of politics, business and profession. This is an essential line that every political leader should have in his hands.
When Fate line curves and goes towards Mercury mount [Fig 12], the person gets tremendous success in his business. It also represents success in journalism and mass communication.
When the Fate line divides into three branches at the end and they are proceeding towards Saturn mount, Sun mount and Jupiter mount [Fig 13], it is a sure sign of great wealth, name and fame.
When there is more than one Fate line, it indicates earnings from more than one source [Fig 14]. Generally we see two Fate lines in the hands of couples where both the husband and wife earn for the family.
In some rare cases, we see formation of ‘M’ in the palm due to the combination of Head line, Heart line and Life line. The symbol ‘M’ represents money after marriage [Fig 15].
It is a sure sign of high earnings and growth after marriage. Such persons will have a high income starting from 35th year till 55th year and become very wealthy. Good luck blesses them after their marriage. The ‘M’ sign can be seen in the palm of famous Indian cine star Chiranjeevi [Fig 16].

    | LINES INIMICAL TO MARRIED LIFE |

Marriage is one of the important aspects of life. Human being’s life is not complete, without marriage. In Vedic culture, the intention of marriage is to get good children who would be useful to the society. But, in modern days marriage is considered as a pleasure satisfying affair. This will produce children who will crave for selfish and personal comforts. Whether a person enjoys good conjugal bliss or not can be estimated clearly from the mounts and lines present in the palms.

    Marriage line

‘Marriage line’ can be seen in the palms at the outer edge of the palm, below the little finger. This line starts at the outer edge and proceeds towards the mount of Mercury which is located under the little finger [Fig 1 AA]. There may be more than one marriage line present. In that case, the line which is longer and most prominent will be capable of giving marriage relationship. The other lines indicate love affairs which will not culminate into marriage.
Effect of Marriage line on married life

If the marriage line is straight or slightly curved towards Heart line [Fig 2], the person will enjoy good married life. The person’s spouse would be understanding and supportive.
If the marriage line is highly curved towards the Heart line as if it is touching the Heart line [Fig 3], then the person’s spouse will suffer from health problems which will mar the married life of the person.
When the marriage line has an island or circle symbol [Fig 4], it represents severe ill health to the partner. It is also an indication of separation from the partner due to psychological mismatch.
When there is a break in the marriage line [Fig 5], the couple will live separately for some time. It may represent legal separation in some cases. Some times, one of the couple will go abroad and the other lives alone in the native place.
When there is split or fork found in the beginning of the marriage line [Fig 6], the couple will live separately for some time, immediately after the marriage.
When the split or fork is seen at the end of the marriage line [Fig 7], there would be a dispute or quarrel which leads to the separation of the couple. Generally, the dispute arises because of the foolishness of one of the partners.
When there is a vertical line cutting the marriage line [Fig 8], it indicates threat to the life of the partner. There may be sudden death of the spouse. If the vertical line is weak, it indicates some obstacles for the marriage which delay the marriage.
If the marriage line goes straight and cuts the Sun line below the ring finger [Fig 9], the marriage will ruin the social status and reputation of the person. There will be financial losses after marriage.
In some cases, we find a long line starting from inside the Venus mount and reaching the Mercury mount cuts the marriage line below the little finger. It is a sign of divorce. During its course, when this line cuts a rising line from the Life line [Fig 10], there will be legal battle and finally the divorce is proclaimed by the court. Relatives and friends will play part in the separation of the couple.
When the marriage line has a fork, it indicates separation. This is confirmed when the marriage line is cut by another line which starts from Life line or from the middle of the palm [Fig 11].
When there is a line starting from inside Venus mount and touching the Heart line in a fork or split [Fig 12], it is an indication of emotional imbalance which leads to separation of the couple.
A line which starts between the first two fingers and ends between the last two fingers and appears in the form of a semi circle is called ‘girdle of Venus’. This line represents excessive desire for sex, alcohols and drugs. Such a person would live mostly in the unrealistic world. He/she will be highly impulsive and emotionally imbalanced which ruins the married life. When the girdle of Venus is connected to marriage line [Fig 13], the person will have disturbed married life. There will be more than one or two disastrous marriages in his/her life.
A black spot or dot present on the marriage line represents premature death of the partner [Fig 14].
A star on the marriage line also gives same effect [Fig 15]. There will be sudden and unexpected death of the partner due to an accident or ill health.
    People who should not marry

Every one born on this earth is naturally eligible to marry. But Palmistry advocates that people with the following lines better not to marry. Such people will face severe troubles in the married life which make them feel celibacy is better than marriage.

The marriage line is curving up towards the little finger [Fig 16]. This is an indication that the person’s life is not tuned for marriage.
The marriage line has a chain formation or there are several small lines drooping and crisscrossing from the marriage line [Fig 17]. This indicates continuous problems after marriage. The person will see hell on the earth. In some cases, it indicates eunuch tendencies which make the person to abhor marriage.

    | FATE LINE – UPS AND DOWNS IN CAREER |

As human beings we need money to lead our life comfortably. To earn money we need a job or profession or we should involve into some business. Such career related issues are clearly represented by the Fate Line in our hands. By observing the Fate Line in both the palms, we can assess when we get the job, when there will be a promotion, when there will be a change in our career and how our earnings will be from time to time. The normal course of the Fate Line is shown in Fig1. It generally starts any where from the base of the palm and ascends towards the Mount of Saturn under the middle finger.

    Nature of the Fate Line:

The Fate Line should be in thick brown color. It should be deep and narrow as if it is cut by a blade. It should not have any breaks (gaps). It should not be cut by any horizontal lines in its course. Such a Fate Line is considered as best one. A person bestowed with such a Fate Line will enjoy career progress and good income all through his life.

    Timing on the Fate Line:

The timing on the Fate Line is shown in the Fig1. Take 5 years at the base of the palm. When Fate Line crosses the Head Line, it should be reckoned as 35th year of the person. At the Heart Line, the age of the person should be taken as 55th year. At the Mount of Saturn where Fate Line ends, the age indicates 75th year. Accordingly, divide the Fate Line and mark the periods with 5 years duration.

    Straight and long Fate Line:

A straight and long Fate Line starts at the base of the palm and ends at the Mount of Saturn. It will not have any breaks or gaps. [Fig 2] This Fate Line assures continuous income for the person till the end of his life. The person is active and earning even in his old age.

Fate Line ending at the Heart Line:

A Fate Line without any defects, going straight and ending at the Heart Line indicates the person will have earnings till his 55th to 58th year. I have often verified this type of Fate Line in the people who are in Government service and who get retired at that age. [Fig 3] Sometimes, it also indicates failure in love affairs.

Fate Line ending at the Head Line:

There will be wrong judgment on the part of the person. He will see failures because of his wrong decisions, especially after his 35th year of age. [Fig 4]

Fate Line ending before reaching Head Line:

If the Fate Line ends in the center of the palm before reaching the Head Line, it indicates struggle in earnings. The person leads a hard life. There will not be any savings. There will be debts to be repaid. [Fig 5]

    Fate Line absent:

It is an indication of poverty. We see absence of Fate Line in the hands of people who lead a life as manual laborers, rickshaw pullers, coolies in factories, servants, and people doing such menial works. [Fig 6] In addition to lack of Fate Line, if the center of the palm is depressed, it indicates troubles in the personal life and the person will never come up in the life. I have often verified absence of Fate Line or poorly traced Fate Line in the hollow palms in case of street beggars.

Fate Line diverting in its course:

If the Fate Line is slightly diverting and moving in another direction, it is an indication that the person leaves the present job and takes decision to join another job or pursue a different career. [Fig 7]

Fate Line with a branch going up:

The branches from the Fate Line moving up represent some promotion or benefits in the job or business. The person’s income will increase at that age when the branch is shooting up. [Fig 8]

Another line merging with Fate Line:

A line which merges with the Fate Line will strengthen the Fate Line. It indicates that the person will come into touch with another person who will help him in his job or business. The person’s income will increase after this point. [Fig 9]

Fate Line accompanied by another parallel line:

A parallel line to the Fate Line indicates support received from colleagues and friends in the career. It also indicates that there will be some income from another source. [Fig 10] Such people do two businesses or some additional part time job. I have verified this in the hands of people where their spouses also earn considerable income.

Fate Line starting from Mount of Moon:

If the Fate Line starts from Mount of Moon and there is horizontal line on the Mount of Moon, it indicates earnings in a foreign land. The person goes abroad and stays there for a considerable period earning a good amount of money. [Fig 11]

Fate Line starting from the Life Line:

If the Fate Line starts from Life Line or from inside of the Life Line, the person will receive constant support in his career from one of his family members or relatives. [Fig 12]

    Fate Line with gaps:

If the Fate Line has a break (stopped) and there is a gap after the break, the person will lose his job. He has to spend sometime jobless before getting another job and there will be monetary problems at that age indicated by the gap. [Fig 13]

When the Fate Line has a break and resuming its course parallel to the break, then the person will change the job or department where he is working. Business people will enter a different business. [Fig 14]

    Fate Line with islands:

Islands in the Fate Line indicate tensions and stressful work in the office. The person cannot take wise decisions. There will be loss of money or position. So, business people will see losses when the island is in effect. [Fig 15]

Fate Line cut by horizontal lines:

Each horizontal line represents loss of money or unnecessary expenditure. The person will feel unfriendly atmosphere in the office or the person will become jobless for some time. Also, there may be health problem to the person at that time. [Fig 16]

    Wavy Fate Line:

If the Fate Line is wavy and there are some breaks, the person will not stick to any one job or business. He will change his job frequently and spends his time without job or business for most of his life. [Fig 17]

    | ASTRO PALMISTRY |

We are always living in the energies coming from planets and stars. The space above us where planets and stars dwell is called ‘zodiac’. The zodiac is divided into 12 parts and each part of the zodiac is called ‘sign’ or ‘rasi’. Thus there are 12 signs in the zodiac wheel.

Since we are exposed to the energies of planets and stars, the energies coming from them are absorbed into our body continuously. Hence the energies coming from the zodiac will influence our whole body and in particular, the specific energy coming from each sign of the zodiac will influence the specific part of our body. So the 12 signs influence our body parts. For example, our head receives more energy from Aries sign, so head is influenced more by Aries. Similarly, our neck is influenced by Taurus, our hands by Gemini, chest by Cancer, heart by Leo, stomach by Virgo, buttocks by Libra, genitals by Scorpio, thighs by Sagittarius, knees by Capricorn, calves by Aquarius and feet by Pisces.

All of our body parts are covered by skin. While the planetary energies enter our body through our skin, they leave some markings and lines on our body or skin. For example, the lines on our forehead, in our palms and under our feet are all formed in this way only. When good energies enter our body, we feel peaceful and become healthy and wealthy. When bad energies enter our body, we feel disturbed and are prone to various problems. Understanding the energies whether they are good or bad by observing the marks and lines on the body will enable us to predict the future of a person. This is called ‘Anga Vidya’ (Science of limbs).

The skin is very sensitive at our lips, in our palms and also at our feet. Energy flows in and out at pointed surfaces. Since our palms and feet are attached to fingers and toes which are pointed, there will be more energy flow in these areas. So, the marks and lines on the palms and feet give clear information about the energies going into or coming out of our body. So it is possible to predict the future of a person by observing the marks and lines of the palms and feet also. Predicting one’s future by studying the marks and lines in the palms is called ‘Hasta Samudrika’ (Palmistry) and predicting the future by studying the marks and lines in the feet is called ‘Pada Samudrika’ (Footology).

    Connection between Astrology and Palmistry

In Astrology, we draw the planetary positions in the zodiac at the time of birth of a person and analyze the good or bad energies of planets by their positions and aspects. This drawing is called horoscope of the person. In Palmistry, we can estimate the good and bad energies of planets by looking at the marks and lines of the palms. In other words we can say our palms contain in-built horoscope. With this idea, some people who are experts in Astrology and Palmistry tried to build horoscope of a person from the lines of the palm. Similarly, some scholars tried to describe the lines and marks in the palms of a native by looking at his horoscope. Such people are called ‘Astro-palmists’. The science ‘Astropalmistry’ refers to the Astrology part that is directly reflected in Palmistry. Astropalmistry is in its infant state because any person who wants to become an Astro-palmist should be versatile in both the sciences: Astrology and Palmistry which is not so easy.

Some Astro-palmists were able to identify the zodiac signs and planetary positions in the palm as shown in the Figure.

One of the ancient books in Astrology that has been kept secret for centuries together in North India and recently made available to the Astrologers is ‘Lal kitab’. This book contains several chapters where Palmistry is linked to Astrology. There are citations linking marks and lines in the palm to the position of the planets in the horoscope. For example, if the Sun line is good and starts from Venus mount and ends on Sun mount, then the planet Sun is found in the first house in the horoscope. Similarly if Sun line is running towards Jupiter mount, then Sun is posited in the second house. In this way there is clear description in Lal kitab linking Palmistry and Astrology. However, this area awaits a lot of research.

Some general points about planets can be understood by observing the palms.
    • If a mount is well developed and high with 1 vertical line on it, then that planet would be in its exaltation or own house.

    • Similarly if a mount is depressed and underdeveloped, then that planet would be in its debilitation.

    • When favorable markings like trident, conch, fish, triangle, square etc are found on a mount, they represent the mount is receiving good aspects from other planets.

    • When unfavorable markings like island, grille, chain, star, dots etc are found on a mount, then we can understand that the mount is receiving bad aspects from other mounts.

    • In most of the cases, we can see a connection line between two planets when there is a conjunction of planets.

    • The Fate line which generally starts at the bottom of the palm and ascends to the Mount of Saturn generally represents the MC or 10th house in the horoscope which shows profession and earnings of the native.

    • In Vedic Astrology, Rahu and Kethu are considered as planets. When these planets afflict the life of a person, we can find chained formation in Life line, Head line and Heart line.
